              T is for Tyr

Tyr is the Norse god of  victory and heroic glory
He agrees to put his hand in the wolf Fenrir's mouth because
Fenrir will not agree to be bound by rope unless one of
the gods puts his hand in Fenrir's mouth.

The rope is magical and Fenrir finds he cannot escape it.
He bites off Tyr's hand. If you see a picture of a
one handed god, it is probably Tyr.

Tyr's name is associated with Tewes, from which
we get our name for Tuesday.
So on Tuesday, think of the god Tyr who gave
his hand to save us from the wolf

  2. I've always liked this story. So many of the gods are selfish that it's nice to see one willing to sacrifice.

Wishing you continued success with the A to Z challenge,

  4. Amazing. Where and how did all these myths about gods and higher beings originate? Someone's dreams or paranormal experience? Aliens? Perhaps story tellers of ancient times. Feather
